Chapan Bamboo Tea Tray – Gong Fu Cha Preparation Surface

This bamboo tea tray, also known as a chapan, creates a dedicated space for preparing tea, rinsing pieces, and serving in small quantities.

It accommodates a teapot, gaiwan, cups, or pitcher, while helping to protect the table when water flows during rinses, short infusions, and repeated gestures.

Its size of approximately 40 × 21 × 5 cm offers a stable surface without becoming too cumbersome. The bamboo provides a simple, light presence suitable for daily tea practices.

INFORMATION

In Gong Fu Cha practices, water is part of the ritual: rinsing cups, warming the gaiwan or teapot, performing several successive infusions. The tray helps contain these movements on a dedicated surface.

This size is suitable for small service preparations: a teapot or gaiwan, a few cups, tongs, a spoon, or a small dosing accessory. It helps organize the table without multiplying objects.

The bamboo, wood shades, assemblies, and dimensions may vary slightly between pieces, especially if handmade.

CHARACTERISTICS

Material: natural bamboo
Manufacture: handmade stated
Dimensions: approximately 40 × 21 × 5 cm
Function: to hold teapot, gaiwan, cups, and rinsing water during preparation

USE & CARE

Place the tray on a flat and stable surface. Set up the gaiwan, teapot, cups, and accessories before starting preparation to maintain a fluid motion.

Use the tray to collect rinse water, warm the pieces, and organize successive infusions. However, avoid leaving stagnant water on the bamboo for too long.

After use, empty the water if the tray has collected any, then wipe with a soft cloth. Allow to dry completely before storing.

Avoid prolonged soaking, abrasive products, and direct heat sources to preserve the bamboo and finishes.

COMPOSE YOUR TEA SPACE

For a complete Gong Fu Cha preparation, this tray can accompany the 6-piece Gong Fu Cha set, with gaiwan, pitcher, and cups.

For a more compact preparation, it can be used with the hand-painted 150 ml gaiwan, the Zisha purple clay lidded bowl or the ceramic side-handle teapot.

To measure leaves, guide material, and handle hot objects, you can pair it with the wooden tea spoon, the bamboo duo with tea scoop and adjusting stick or the bamboo tea tongs.

To limit water marks between rinses, it can be complemented by the absorbent tea towel.

To compare with a narrower surface without water collection, you can consult the dark wood narrow tea tray or find the Prepare selection.

🤍 Ikane workshop tip
Before creating, prepare the tea. Repeat the gestures, let the water flow, then wipe the tray after use. A well-prepared space helps focus attention before moving on to the material.
