Why Ikane exists
I created Ikane because I wanted to move away from creation reduced to screens, speed and endless visual references.
A creative practice is not only the final image. It also depends on the tools used, the surface chosen, the material prepared and the way the hand enters the work.
Ikane brings together art materials, preparation objects and studio tools that give more weight to these steps: setting up, testing, preparing, tracing, repeating.
The aim is simple: to support a more physical, more precise and more attentive relationship to creation.
"In art, you always start again."
— Alberto Giacometti
What Ikane brings together
Ikane is not only a store for art supplies. It brings together objects that support the different stages of a creative practice: preparing, setting up, testing, tracing, writing, painting, sculpting and experimenting.
Some objects are directly used to create: inks, pigments, brushes, pens, papers, surfaces and tracing tools. Others prepare the conditions around the work: incense, tea objects, studio accessories and tools that help structure the space before starting.
This is the core of Ikane: not separating the material from the gesture. A tool is not only useful because of what it produces, but because of the way it changes the rhythm, the attention and the relationship to the hand.
The selection moves between art materials and preparation objects, with one clear direction: choosing objects that make the creative act more physical, more focused and more connected to real practice.
"Before the act, there is attention."
— Shunryū Suzuki
✋ Chosen through use
I spend much of my time looking for materials, tools and objects that bring something tangible to a practice.
Before ordering a sample, I always ask myself whether I would choose the object for my own work: whether its material, format and use are relevant, and whether it offers more than its appearance alone.
I am particularly interested in tools that engage the hand and create a direct relationship with the material: grinding ink, preparing a surface, mixing, tracing, carving, writing, arranging or repeating a precise movement.
I then order samples to examine the object more closely, understand how it behaves in use and decide whether it deserves a place in the Ikane selection. Not every product I find is retained.
⌛ An independent and evolving selection
Ikane is an independent retailer specialising in the selection and distribution of art materials, tools and objects connected to manual practices.
Some references come from manufacturers and production networks that also supply established art retailers. The same object, or a very similar model, may therefore be available elsewhere.
My role is to search through a broad and often difficult-to-read offer, compare materials, formats and uses, order samples and retain the references that I consider genuinely relevant.
The selection evolves according to my research, the samples received, product availability and changes made by manufacturers or suppliers.
As availability can change quickly, an item may occasionally become unavailable after an order has been placed. In that case, we will contact you and offer a clear solution: a suitable alternative, an adjustment to the order or a full refund.

Products are shipped from our partners’ logistics centres, mainly located in Asia, particularly in China.
When your order contains several items, our logistics partner consolidates them before shipping to prioritise a single parcel and avoid unnecessary packaging.
Products currently retain the manufacturers’ packaging and may not yet systematically feature Ikane’s visual identity.
Delivery times are estimates and include the time required to consolidate, prepare and transport the order.
Delivery is currently available to mainland Greece and mainland Portugal only, excluding remote islands. In Ireland, delivery covers all 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland, excluding Northern Ireland.
