Ikane's About

Why Ikane exists

Contemporary art supply catalogues focus on finished tools. They rarely consider the conditions that precede creation.

Ikane was created to place preparation on the same level as making. Grinding ink, preparing the surface, organising the workspace. These steps influence what can emerge.

"In art, you always start again."

Alberto Giacometti

About Ikane

Ikane is an independent structure, created by artists who work across drawing, painting, sculpture and writing.

It operates as a focused platform rather than a catalogue. Each element is positioned within a coherent working framework.

Ikane is not built for scale, but for consistency.

✋ A deliberate choice

The digital environment is built on constant solicitation. Notifications, automated emails, engineered urgency. Ikane does not operate within that model.

There is no newsletter. No automated campaigns. No repeated pressure to purchase.

Space is left open. Each person comes when they are ready.

⌛ The Common Studio

A Discord space called The Common Studio has been created for those who wish to share their practice.

It is not managed as a marketing channel. It is not orchestrated. It simply exists as a place.

Anyone may enter, participate, observe or remain silent. Participation is optional.

Ikane does not centralise its entire stock in a single European warehouse. Certain items may originate from different locations, notably China, where tools related to traditional practices are manufactured. Orders are consolidated and shipped in a single parcel. This approach avoids multiple shipments, limits unnecessary packaging and reduces overall transport volume. This structure may require additional preparation time. Delivery times are indicative and correspond to usual timeframes.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Where do your products come from?

Our tools come from several regions of the world, mainly China, East Asia and Europe, depending on the associated expertise.
Some tools come from small manufacturers specializing in calligraphy or inks. Others come from reliable European suppliers.

Our criterion is not origin, but usage:
If a tool works well, reacts correctly, lasts over time and inspires creativity, we select it.

• Do you manufacture your products?

We do not manufacture all of the tools offered.
We test them, filter them, and select them based on their quality of use:
If the material reacts badly, if the brush loses its bristles, if the ink migrates or if the paper absorbs too quickly, we do not keep it.

• Do you regularly add new references?

Yes, but gradually.
No "mass-produced" new features: we add what makes sense, at the pace of our trials and discoveries.

• What are the shipping times?

Delivery times vary depending on the item.
— on average 7 to 15 working days depending on the suppliers,
— some products may arrive more quickly,
— others require a little more time depending on their origin.
We always indicate the estimated delivery time before order confirmation.

• Where do you ship to?

We ship throughout France, and to some European countries depending on the products.

• Can I return an item?

Yes. You have 14 days after receipt to request a return.
Items must be new, unused and in their original packaging.
For hygiene and quality reasons, inks, paints, liquids and consumables can only be returned if they have never been opened.
Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer, unless the error is ours.

• What should I do if an item is damaged?

Simply send us a message with a photo of the product in question.
We always find a quick and clean solution:
refund, return or replacement, as appropriate.

• Are your products suitable for beginners?

Yes. Part of our selection is designed to help you get started without intimidation:
simple brushes, creative kits, notebooks, affordable inks.

• Why don't you have a traditional newsletter?

We have chosen not to send a regular newsletter to avoid any unnecessary overload.
Our inboxes are already full: we don't want to become just another message.
Instead, we propose a meeting, every first Sunday of the month:
On a selection of materials -10% for those who like to follow Ikane.

We prefer quality over volume: creating a connection, not a flow.
To stay informed about new products, you can regularly check the shop, join Discord (L'Atelier Commun) or follow our social networks.

• What is Live Art & Co?

Live Art & Co is Ikane's living space:
The place where creators can show their techniques, share their experiments, their explorations, their ways of working with materials.
Everyone is welcome to share a creative moment, whether simple or more involved. The goal isn't performance, but simply the desire to see how each person creates, on a daily basis, with our materials.
