Zisha Purple Clay Covered Bowl – Sancai Gaiwan for Gong Fu Cha

This Zisha purple clay covered bowl is inspired by Gong Fu Cha practices. It allows you to infuse loose leaf tea directly in the bowl, then pour by tilting the lid.

Dense, mineral, and slightly porous, the clay retains heat and supports short infusions. Over time, the surface can develop a subtle patina from repeated contact with tea.

Its 10 × 8.5 cm size is suitable for slow preparations, small tastings, and minimalist tea spaces, where each pour allows you to observe the evolution of the leaves.

INFORMATION

The covered bowl, also called gaiwan or Sancai, brings together three elements: a bowl, a lid, and a saucer. It is used to infuse, control the opening of the leaves, and filter when pouring.

Unlike a classic teapot, this format allows you to work with little water, a short time, and several successive infusions. It is suitable for loose leaf teas such as oolong, pu-erh, black teas, white teas, or green teas, depending on the chosen temperature.

Variations in shade, texture, surface, and dimensions are due to artisanal manufacturing. Each piece may have slight differences.

CHARACTERISTICS

Type: Gaiwan / Sancai
Material: Zisha purple clay
Dimensions: approximately 10 × 8.5 cm
Function: infuse, cover, filter, and pour in small quantities

USE & CARE

Rinse the bowl with hot water before the first infusion to warm the clay. Place the leaves in the bowl, pour hot water, then cover during infusion.

To serve, slightly tilt the lid to retain the leaves while allowing the liquid to pass. Pouring should remain slow and controlled, especially when the bowl is hot.

Clean with clear water after use, without scented or abrasive products. Let dry completely before storing. Do not heat directly on a flame, hob, or heat source.

COMPOSE YOUR TEA SPACE

To measure the leaves and slide them cleanly into the bowl, you can combine it with the bamboo duo with tea scoop and adjusting stick.

To handle hot cups, lids, and objects during preparation, it can be complemented by the bamboo tea tongs.

To organize the table and collect rinsing water, you can use it with the compact bamboo tea tray.

To serve several infusions, it can accompany the set of 4 ceramic cups or the 6-piece Gong Fu Cha set.

To find objects related to tea, incense, and preparation times, you can consult the Prepare selection.

🤍 Ikane workshop advice
Establish silence before infusion: heat the bowl, place the leaves, then let the steam open up time. With a gaiwan, the rhythm is played in the tilt of the lid and the precision of the pour.
