Set of 7 beech wood ribs for ceramics & sculpture

This kit brings together seven beech wood ribs designed for shaping, smoothing, cutting, hollowing, or texturing clay. Their varied profiles allow for different stages of shaping with the same set of tools.

The different shapes are used to remove material, soften a curve, refine a joint, draw a line, or create marks on the clay surface. They can be used during hand-modeling as well as for finishing a piece.

Made of beech wood, the ribs offer a comfortable grip and work without unnecessarily damaging the clay surface. The kit allows you to progressively choose the profile best suited to each shape and action.

INFORMATION

The seven ribs have straight, rounded, pointed, or hollowed contours. This diversity allows you to move material, compress a surface, correct a shape, work an edge, or add texture without constantly switching between different tool families.

The wood slightly absorbs moisture from the clay surface and offers a different feel from metal or plastic. It is particularly suitable for gradual refinements and finishes that require controlled movements.

FEATURES

• Material: Beech wood
• Quantity: 7 ribs
• Functions: Shape, smooth, hollow, cut, compress, and texture
• Uses: Ceramics, pottery, sculpture, and clay modeling

USE & CARE

Use the rounded profiles to smooth curves and compress the surface. The straight parts allow you to refine an edge, equalize an area, or cut the clay, while the finer ends are used for details, hollows, and lines.

Work in progressive passes to avoid removing too much material at once. The result depends on the consistency of the clay: soft clay moves easily, while slightly firmed clay allows for cleaner refinements.

After use, remove clay residues with a slightly damp cloth, then let the tools air dry. Avoid soaking them in water to limit swelling, warping, and cracking of the wood.

FOR WHOM

This kit is suitable for those new to ceramics as well as experienced ceramicists who want multiple wood profiles for working on volumes, joints, surfaces, and finishes of a piece.

PAIR WITH

Supplement this kit with the 9-piece modeling tool set for working on details and joints, the measuring and tracing compass for ceramics to control diameters and proportions, and the multi-marking T-square for preparing regular lines on clay slabs.

IKANE WORKSHOP TIP

Test each profile on a piece of scrap clay, varying the pressure and angle. This will help you identify the ribs best suited for smoothing, removing material, or creating textures before working on your piece.
