Dip pen set — wooden pen holder, ink, and interchangeable metal nibs.
Choose a nib, dip it in ink, then write a few words,
draw outlines or lines before reloading.
The set allows you to explore dip pen writing,
calligraphy, and ink drawing with a single pen holder.
Each nib reacts differently:
some prioritize fineness, others hold more ink
or offer more variation when pressure changes.
Test them gently to identify their best use.
Information
A dip pen does not have a permanent reservoir like a fountain pen.
The metal nib receives a small amount of ink,
enough for a few words or strokes,
then it must be refilled.
The width and behavior of the line depend on the nib's shape,
its flexibility, the holding angle, and the paper.
Not all nibs are flexible:
if a nib resists, do not strongly increase the pressure.
The set keeps the pen holder, ink, and nibs together after use.
It is available in dark wood or light wood finish.

First use
Is the ink sliding off a new nib?
Some metal nibs have a slight protective film.
If the ink forms drops instead of adhering,
clean the nib with a little warm water and mild soap,
then rinse and dry it completely.
-
Insert the nib into the pen holder until it is stable,
without forcing or deforming it.
-
Only dip the metal part that holds the ink,
without submerging the pen holder.
-
Lightly touch the inner edge of the bottle
to remove any drop that might fall onto the paper.
-
Start with an angle close to 45°,
then adjust it according to the nib and desired width.
-
Test a few lines on a scrap of the same paper
before writing on the final page.
Choosing the nib and paper
For fine writing
Start with a narrow nib and light pressure.
Refill it as soon as the line becomes dry or irregular.
For a more expressive line
Try a wider or more flexible nib.
Increase pressure gradually:
the tines should spread without remaining deformed.
To prevent ink feathering
Choose a smooth, less absorbent paper.
Grammage alone is not enough:
poorly sized paper can cause ink to spread even if it's thick.
Cleaning
Remove the nib from the pen holder after use.
Rinse it quickly with clear water before the ink dries,
then wipe it with a lint-free cloth.
The nib must be completely dry before being placed back in the set.
Do not leave a nib soaking in the bottle:
ink can dry on the metal, attack its finish,
or build up in the pen holder's joint.
🤍 Ikane workshop tip
Draw a series of lines with each nib, noting its number or position in the set.
You will quickly build up a chart of strokes
and know which nib to use for a letter, title, or drawing.
