Fine Marten Hair Brush – Chinese Calligraphy, Xiaokai, Lishu, and Precise Strokes
This fine marten hair brush is designed for precise writing, small characters, ink details, and slow calligraphy exercises.
Its fine, flexible, and responsive tip allows for light finishes, sharp angles, narrow lines, and subtle variations in thickness.
It is particularly suitable for Xiaokai and Lishu styles, fine lines, detail touch-ups, and practices where hand pressure must remain very controlled.
INFORMATION
This brush is designed for precise movements: small characters, calligraphic details, short strokes, outlines, punctuation, touch-ups, and lines that require a well-controlled tip.
The fine fiber reacts quickly to changes in pressure and inclination. Light pressure produces a fine line; a firmer press widens the line without completely losing the tip.
The natural bamboo handle offers a light grip, suitable for long writing sessions, repetitive exercises, and strokes that require little tension in the fingers.
FEATURES
Tip diameter: approximately 8 mm
Tip length: approximately 20 mm
Handle: natural bamboo
Compatibility: ink prepared on stone, liquid ink, light wash, Xuan paper, or paper suitable for ink
USE & CARE
Before first use, gently moisten the fiber with clear water to soften the tip and remove any potential storage sizing.
Load the brush gradually, then remove excess on the edge of the inkstone, dish, or palette. For fine writing, an overloaded tip can thicken the stroke too quickly.
Work with minimal pressure. The slower the movement, the more visible the stroke variations become, especially on slightly absorbent paper.
After use, rinse with clear water until the ink or pigment disappears. Gently reshape the tip with your fingers, without twisting the fiber, then let it air dry.

🤍 Ikane Workshop Tip
This brush works particularly well with minimal pressure. On slightly absorbent paper, slowing down the movement reveals fine, lively, almost vibrant outlines.
