This set of 12 charcoal pencils is designed for drawing, sketching, volume studies, shadows, and contrast exploration.
The pencil format allows for a more precise line than with a raw charcoal stick, while retaining a black, matte, and powdery finish. It is suitable for quick sketches as well as more elaborate drawings.
Depending on the chosen variant, the lead hardness modifies the stroke: a soft lead gives deeper blacks, a medium lead balances line and blending, and a hard lead is more suitable for contours and details.
INFORMATION
Charcoal pencils allow for more controlled black work than raw charcoal. They keep hands cleaner, reduce breakage during transport, and facilitate construction lines, contours, and detail touch-ups.
They are particularly useful for value studies, progressive shadows, portraits, observational sketches, simple volumes, and compositions requiring a matte black without graphite shine.
The rendering depends on the paper, grain, pressure, blending, and selected hardness. Slightly textured paper holds the material better than very smooth paper.

CHOOSING HARDNESS
A hard lead is suitable for construction lines, contours, light markings, and details that require more precision.
A medium lead allows transitioning from line to shadow without changing tools too often. It is well suited for sketches, intermediate values, and study drawings.
A soft lead deposits more material. It is used for deep blacks, broad shadows, dark masses, and more pronounced contrasts.
USE & CARE
Start by placing the main lines with a hard or medium lead, then build up the shadows with a softer lead. This progression avoids saturating the paper too early.
To blend, use your finger, a tortillon, soft paper, or a clean cloth depending on the desired effect. Keeping some areas unblended helps retain deeper blacks.
Charcoal transfers easily. Lightly fix the drawing if necessary, especially before storing the sheet, closing a sketchbook, or stacking multiple works.
Sharpen with an appropriate tool, without excessive pressure. Protect pencils from impacts to limit internal lead breakage.

For sketches, value studies, and explorations on beige paper, this set can accompany the
