Folding Wooden Watercolor Board – Palette, Stand, and Compact Storage

This folding wooden watercolor board combines an inclined stand, a central palette, empty pans, and a mixing area in a compact format.

Once open, the lid can hold a small sheet, a watercolor card, or a compatible sketchbook. The 24 small pans remain in the center, the mixing surface is on the right flap, and the circular opening on the left flap can accommodate a small suitable container.

The box folds up after use to store the pans and transport a reduced selection of colors. As wood is natural, its shade, grain, and markings may vary from one piece to another.

INFORMATION

This palette box is designed for watercolorists who want to work with a limited selection of colors, without setting up a large separate palette.

The raised lid serves as a support for a small sheet or a sketchbook compatible with its dimensions. It allows you to work with the paper slightly inclined rather than flat.

The 24 pans are empty: they can receive small quantities of watercolor, but are not intended to hold entire tubes. It is preferable to fill only the colors useful for the session.

The top groove is suitable for a short brush, a pencil, or a small tool. It is not suitable for long brushes.

FEATURES

Material: wood
Folded dimensions: approximately 27 × 17 × 6 cm
Pans: 24 small empty pans
Right flap: integrated mixing surface
Left flap: circular opening for compatible small container
Top groove: short brush, pencil, or small tool

PREPARING THE BOX

Fill only the pans needed for the session, then let the paint dry before closing the box. This prevents spills and color transfer to the wood.

Install a small sheet or a compatible sketchbook on the raised lid. Check that the support is stable before adding water or starting washes.

Place a small compatible container in the circular opening of the left flap, then check its stability before filling it.

Use the top groove only for a short brush, a pencil, or a small tool. Long brushes should be placed next to it or on a brush rest.

PAPER & MAINTENANCE

For wet work, choose watercolor paper of approximately 300 gsm. It may still slightly buckle with a lot of water, but it resists better than lightweight paper.

After the session, empty the container, wipe the mixing surface, and immediately remove any water remaining on the wood.

Leave the box open to dry. Do not fold it until the pans, palette, or wooden surfaces are still wet.

Avoid soaking, abrasive products, and prolonged moisture to preserve the wood.

TO PAIR WITH

For working on paper suitable for washes, this board can accompany the 300g pocket watercolor sketchbook.

To fill the pans or prepare a reduced palette, you can pair it with the 12-color watercolor palette or the Super Vision 15ml tube watercolors.

For washes, flat colors, and backgrounds, it works with the bamboo flat brush set or the ArtSecret watercolor brush set.

To rest brushes between strokes, you can complete the set with the jade-effect ceramic brush rest or the compartmented ceramic palette if you need an additional mixing surface.

🤍 Ikane Workshop Tip
Prepare a selection of six to eight colors instead of filling all 24 pans during the first session. You will more easily identify the mixtures that are truly useful for your practice.
