Japanese cotton paper cards 3-grain
Japanese cotton paper cards – 12 cards, 3 grains
This set includes 12 cards made of 100% cotton paper in 105 × 155 mm format, intended for drawing, ink, calligraphy, graphite, charcoal, and light watercolor testing.
Three grains are available: fine to preserve more precision, medium to balance line and texture, or coarse to highlight the medium applied to the paper more strongly.
The small format is perfect for testing a tool, creating a short study, working on a range of values, or preparing several trials without using a large sheet.
CHOOSE THE GRAIN
Fine: the surface retains small details and outlines better. Best for precise lines, writing, pen, graphite, and drawings that require little texture.
Medium: the grain remains visible without dominating the line. It is suitable for graphite, charcoal, ink, light layering, and mixed media testing.
Coarse: the paper's texture plays a larger role in the result. It highlights rubbing, irregular deposits, dry pencils, and more textured strokes.

USE & TIPS
With graphite, charcoal, or dry pencils, choose the grain based on the desired effect: fine to keep details, medium to retain some texture, coarse to make the material deposit more visible.
For ink or watercolor, start with very little water. Cotton paper accepts slightly damp strokes, but these cards are not intended for heavy washes or large quantities of water.
If preparing a series, test the tool on one card first: pressure, blending, and amount of water will not produce the same result across the three grains.
Let work done with water dry completely before stacking to limit transfers and moisture marks.
PAIR WITH
To compare the behavior of charcoal on different grains, use the set of 12 mixed charcoal pencils .
To work with matte blacks and observe how the paper texture holds the medium, use the set of 8 carbon – soft charcoal pencils .
To test highlights on different surfaces, pair them with white charcoal pencils .
For small color studies with little water, use the watercolor pan set .
♥ IKANE STUDIO TIP
If you are hesitant between the three grains, make the exact same mark with a pencil and then a brush on each version. The grain that suits you best becomes immediately visible: precision on the fine, compromise on the medium, texture on the coarse.
