Set of 5 Chinese Calligraphy Brushes – Weasel Hair and Wooden Box
This set includes 5 brushes of different sizes for practicing Chinese calligraphy, ink drawing, sumi-e, and washes.
Weasel hairs offer a balance between flexibility and firmness. They hold ink, regain their point more easily, and allow for better control of line variations.
Each size is suitable for a different use: fine lines, larger characters, washes, details, or more expressive strokes. The wooden box protects the brushes between sessions and makes storage easier in the studio.
INFORMATION
This set allows you to work with various stroke widths without using a single brush for all situations. A small size helps to define details; a larger brush allows for more ink loading and wider strokes.
Weasel hairs are prized in calligraphy for their responsiveness: they maintain some flexibility while offering a firmer point return than very soft hair.
This product contains natural animal hair. It is not suitable for those seeking a vegan or entirely synthetic alternative.
CHARACTERISTICS
Contents: 5 brushes of different sizes
Hair: weasel
Storage: wooden box
Box dimensions: approximately 37 × 14 cm
Compatibility: liquid ink, ink sticks, Xuan paper and media suitable for ink techniques
USE & CARE
Before first use, gently moisten the tip with clear water to soften the bristles and dissolve the protective gum used during transport.
Choose the brush according to the size of the character, the desired amount of ink, and the amplitude of the stroke. A brush that is too small will saturate quickly; a brush that is too large can make details harder to control.
After use, rinse with clear water until the water is clean, gently reshape the tip with your fingers, then let dry suspended, head down or flat. Avoid letting ink dry in the bristles.
ASSEMBLE YOUR INK KIT
To prepare traditional ink, this set can be combined with
ink sticks
and the
7.5 cm inkstone.
For calligraphy, washes, and sumi-e, it can be used with
semi-ripe Xuan paper
or
handmade Xuan paper.
To rest brushes between strokes and protect wet tips, you can use the
blue dragon ceramic brush rest
or the
black studio brush holder.
To compare with other brush tip behaviors, you can also discover the
bamboo calligraphy brush
or the
traditional rabbit hair brush.
🤍 Ikane Studio Tip
Using a different brush depending on the size of the characters or the desired amount of ink helps to maintain a beautiful point for longer. The stroke gains precision when the tool is not forced beyond its natural size.
